Usually, this problem is faced by the people who have to stay in a hotel or a guesthouse for some hours or days. Hotel network security is therefore highly essential, and it must be ensured by the hotel management.

1.    Avoid Online Banking
One must make sure that the hotel network security system is completely updated and legitimate. Sometimes, such claims from the hotels are simply a bluff. First of all, it is important to select a credible hotel with a good reputation. Then, try to avoid online banking when you are using a public Wi-Fi connection. If you have no other choice, then you can only hope that the hotel network security system will work efficiently and your financial credentials will remain safe from the hackers.

2.    Make Cash Payment
Use of Credit/Debit cards is common these days. If you don’t have a Credit card, then hold enough cash in your pocket so that you do not have to use the Debit Card information. Credit Cards have enough protection, but Debit Cards are not a wise option. Back in 2013, 75% of all leaks of financial credentials were done from the hotels, casinos, and restaurants (Data Breach Investigation Report, Verizon 2014).

3.    Keep Changing The Passwords
One simple practice could prove to be handy, and it is to change the passwords at least once a week. These passwords include online banking password, virtual wallet password, E-Mail accounts, etc.
These days, we maintain multiple accounts for social media, E-Mails, professional accounts, banking, and gaming, etc. It is not a wise thing to set same of similar password for all the accounts. Ideally, each account must have a unique, complicated and weird sort of password so that no one could event get a hint of it. (Make sure to avoid Vehicle Number, ID Card number, Birthdate of School name)

4.    Use Password Manager
Password managers are a good option because it becomes difficult to remember the passwords and most of the time people opt for ‘stay singed in’ or ‘remember the password for this device.' Rather than using such options, password managers offer a far better password security system.

5.    Two-Factor Authentication
Whenever 2FA option is available, never hesitate to activate it. Two-Factor Authentication makes it much harder for the malicious people to get into the account of the victim. 2FA sends a temporary code to the user’s set cell number and until this code is not entered, nobody can login to the account.
These simple tips will make things much safer for the travelers. Even then, it is important to ask if hotel network security system is properly updated or not.
